VULNERABLE SPOTS – KEY TO END A STREET FIGHT ASAP
KRAV MAGA is a pragmatic and realistic fighting system. Find out how...
WHY AIM AT ‘VULNERABLE SPOTS’
When training civilians, we teach them to DEFEND > OFFEND >NEUTRALIZE> EXIT .
And the shorter this sequence it is better. Because, the longer a confrontation is prolonged, higher is your exposure.
So, in KravMaga, to keep a fight short and decisive, we always aim at the VULNERABLE SPOTS of the opponent’s body.
VULNERABLE SPOTS – NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH ‘VITAL SPOTS’
Hitting vital spots can result in collateral damage, and even worse - fatality. You are not interested in defending a murder charge, are you?! So forget hitting internal organs.
This write-up is to educate you on stopping a fight ASAP, NOT maiming or killing.
WHAT ARE THE VULNERABLE SPOTS IN THE HUMAN BODY
5) GROIN (TESTICLES)
WHY WE CALL THESE ‘VULNERABLE SPOTS’
1) THEY ARE EASY TO REACH
All these spots are on the surface. It does not take years of practice to hit them.
For instance, everybody knows Solar plexus is a good spot to bring down an opponent. But hitting it requires precision and angle, which is acquired over a prolonged practice. Even if you have the skills to hit the solar plexus, if the opponent has a beer-belly, you can’t reach it.
2) THESE PARTS CANNOT BE EXERCISED AND TOUGHENED
There are no popular body building exercises to strengthen the testicles, nose or eyes. I have heard of some exotic methods, but they are not for common men.
So even if the opponent is comparatively bigger and stronger, hitting these spots will have the same effect as it has on a smaller person.
3) THEY ARE HIGLY SENSITIVE TO IMPACT
Except the groin, all the vulnerable spots have bone on the surface. But groin is also painful because it has nerve endings bunched together on the scrotum.
So intimidating pain is assured by hitting vulnerable spots.
4) HITTING VULNERABLE SPOTS IMMOBILIZE THE ATTACKER
As mentioned earlier, a confrontation ends not just with defending and offending, but by ‘neutralizing’. That in simple English means, the opponent should lose the capacity to attack and be unable to follow you or get assistance. Only this will give you the crucial window to exit effectively from the scene.
In these times, it also helps to remove the cell phone from him and make it dysfunctional. Krav Maga is all about common sense!

The Dynamics of Police encounters - Part 2
The background of encountered criminals - Venkatesh Pannaiyar This was an encounter which resulted in the transfer of the charismatic Vijayakumar IPS, the then Commissioner of Police, Chennai. Read on to understand how the police fight crime with one arm tied behind their back. Also how the media, which cant shed its caste and community prejudices, packed off an efficient officer from the state itself, in spite of delivering whatever assignment given to him. VENKATESH PANNAIYAR - THE BACKGROUND
The diminutive and nattily dressed Venkatesh Pannaiyar won’t physically fit the prevalent image of a don.
But he is a product of generations of caste feud plaguing Southern TamilNadu. His family is from Moolakarai near Tuiticorin; an area with the dubious reputation for making country bombs and gun running.
Venkatesh's uncle, grandfather - important elders of their community have been murdered by Dalits, when he was a boy. Venkatesh, grew up as a…
After the Guwahati incident, wherein a girl was sexually molested
by around 30 men, I have been getting calls from concerned parents and IT/BPO companies
which employ women; all enquiring about
self-defense courses. Suddenly here was
an ugly reminder of the safety of women on Indian streets. “Oh..come on..it’s the same all over the
world. .tell me..if the girl is walking outside a bar at that time, what does
she expect?!” shrugged one middle
aged man, while another waved the whole the thing away with a generic dismissal , “She is a victim of the angrezi pub culture” But the truth is more ugly and accurate, as these facts below point out.
The security of woman in India is amongst the lowest,
globally ( Source - http://www.womanstats.org) The more startling fact is, even war-torn Somalia is rated a
better country in terms of safety of women! India is at the bottom 4 along with
Afghanistan, Congo and Pakistan. (Source -www.trust.org)
In India , Andhra and Bengal seem to be the worst state…
The Dynamics of Police encounters - Part 1 Since 2002 I have been asked to assist the police on various ‘encounters’, including the recent Chennai Bank robbery gang. Having the twin advantage of the objectivity as a civilian who enjoys the front-row view of the inner dynamics of police-criminal confrontations, I have my two cents worth on the subject of police encounters. I will be covering the Media's role in this first part. I will proceed to the encountered criminals' background and later how equipped is the force for effective policing. Part I - Police encounters and the Media THE REPONSIBILITY OF MEDIA I totally accept the dictum that in a working democracy each institution, like Legislature, Judiciary, Politicians and the Media has also the responsibility of keeping each others in check. This prevents power being blatantly misused by any unchecked institution. The media does its journalistic duty of putting everything on the proper perspective, by giving visibility to various …
