"I cant imagine me hitting anyone"

Image
Yesterday a new lady student said " Till recently I couldn't imagine me hitting anyone. It took lots of incidents to push me to a decision and come to the KravMaga class." I have heard this " I cant imagine me hitting anyone" before in corporate workshops for women and once even from an ace shuttle champ who was a tall and strong woman. I was surprised that someone so athletic and a role model for other women is allergic to physical violence. The common reasons given by them are like - "From childhood, I was taught not to physically harm others." " Physical violence is a crude way to address a problem- resorted by only those who dont have the brains to solve it." "Violence is not a civilized way"  Pacifists by  Hawkins, Jonny While we at KravMaga TamilNadu applaud this pacifistic out...

As a Kravist, what can I learn from Sachin

Image
Sachin is a great athlete. For many cricket fans he is more than that.. He is God! Today, when I read Sachin is retiring I asked myself " What made Sachin what he is!?” The most obvious quality that set Sachin apart from the mortals was his natural talent for cricket. We cannot emulate that, since not all are born blessed with it. But, there were many cricketers who had the same talent as Sachin. DEDICATION Its common knowledge that Sachin practised for at least 12 hours. He took every aspect of the game apart and gained expertise in each of them. Passion backed up with Dedication!  That sets apart the champion from others. They dedicate time for practice, time for introspection and time for learning; more than their peers. FOCUS Fame is heady. Especially in the glamour world of Indian c...

CLOSE COMBAT FOR POLICE - CONCERNS IN TEACHING

Image
KravMaga close combat for Police   The concerns to be taken into consideration when training police in close combat are – CONCERN 1 - Police can't use force disproportionate to the threat and risk being censured by human rights activists and media . The techniques taught to field patrol officers should NOT involve hitting of vital parts KravMaga teaches hitting VULNERABLE parts & NOT VITAL parts The focus should be on DISARMING, cutting his MOBILITY and CONTROL of the aggressor. CONCERN 2 - While a civilian can neutralize an attacker and leave the scene, Police job is NOT complete till control and arrest of the attacker. Stress on submission techniques & takedowns. Emphasize personal safety of the policeman – (ex) long weapon > go short; short weapon >> go long Teach criminal escorting holds CONCERN 3 - While civilian training is more on self defense, training to police has to give importance to pro-active intervention in a violent situation. Teach interven...
