Banglore ATM robbery attempt - Lessons

Bengaluru ATM robbery attempt - Video
Quite a few friends asked me what were the options for the victim, Jyoti Uday  Well, the first option is 'personal safety".. Period.

Even though, as a KravMaga instructor I teach defence against knife threats and knife attacks, we first tell the student " Its not worthwhile to fight against a knife to save your money"

Money can be earned again but not life. See what happened to the poor victim Jyoti. She is in the hospital with grievious head injuries. Even though doctors say her life is not in danger, she may probably have serious physical and mental trauma for the rest of her life

So, to save a few thousands Jyoti paid a much higher price.
Please be clear about the priorities. Self-defence is NOT about fighting. It is all about survival.

There are 2 kinds of crimes.
1) Crime for gain
2) Crime of Passion

This ATM assault and robbery attempt is obviously a crime for gain. A criminal is not keen to increase his crime magnitude. So why resist and force him to assault!

Self-defence is called for only in scenarios of 'crime of passion' where the victim does not have a choice; other than fighting to save from imminent death.

A committed knife assault is almost impossible to stop, even for a trained martial-artist. At the most he can reduce the number of stabs..that's all.

Who is accountable for this crime?
If at all, anybody is accountable for this Bengaluru ATM assault it is the bank which owns the ATM. It had no guard.
The worst part was, the victim was bleeding for a few hours before being noticed. So obviously the CCTVs are only recording devices and are not monitored.
The Corporation bank has to owe responsibility for the absence of physical security and organized response mechanism.

Net take - If somebody tries to rob you pointing a knife, just hand over the money. As a KravMaga instructor, I dont want to make my trainees to risk their life to save a few thousands.

Once again I reiterate – Civilian self-defence is NOT about fighting. It is all about survival with minimum effort.

To highlight this priority on survival, just see this intelligent lady's reaction when she is caught in an ugly situation, along with her small son.
